For a hot minute I thought I couldn't do purple and fall colors. I was really scared to even do purple because I basically live in fall colors (according to my mother I am a fall! I agree...). But its totally working out. In fact it is making me want to style more jewel tones in with fall colors. Especially this burnt orange. This top is so silky and gorgeous everyday inside of it is magical! Snagged this vest for a solid $3.99 at the thrift store I work at. Uh yahhhhh!!!!! So now I am excessively interested in others thoughts on color pairing. Are there colors that you won't wear together? What are your FAVORITE colors to wear in general? Colors you hate? I'm so curious. Because I am finding that my sense of color is changing over time I am wondering if others experience this too!!

slow sunday

Ahhh Sunday. I feel like its already a characteristically slow day, it is after all the day of rest and many people get the luxury of spending it that way! This will be a new series where I will share some things going on in my life and in the world of the slow movement. 

Slow Reading:

I have been reading this Y.A. book series I got for my birthday called The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. It is freaking incredible. Stiefvater is an amazing story teller that has you so sucked in that you can hardly think of anything else. I love a YA series were boys take the main stage and the Raven Boys is just that (don't worry there is a girl front and center too!). This is very dark, twisty with lots of the occult. Taking things from dreams, being best friends with a ghost and searching for a mythical king all while struggling with the day to day life of high school students are just a few of the things that happen in this series. If you are into fantasy and like a well written book this is for you. Even if you don't dabble in the Young Adult world I highly recommend this series. Put on a pot of tea and call yourself in sick because you won't want to put these down until you finish. 

Slow Fashion: 

John Bartlett and Ruthie Davis have partnered to make a vegan shoe line called Ruthie Davis (Heart) (the original article was found on Ecouterre, a great site if your interested in eco-fashion). You may remember some of John's stuff if you have been reading my blog for awhile in the year (Day FortyTwo, Day OneHudredFiftyEight). I bought the pig shirt. I love his tiny tim fund design which is the design on these shoes. Davis already has a wonderful vegan eco-friendly line of shoes and this partnership makes me ECSTATIC. Eco-friendly comes with a price though, all designs start at about $400. They will be available in Spring 2014. Better start saving my pennies now!

Slow Art: 

There are a few definitions of slow art. The one I like advocates an appreciation for art work itself, as opposed to a rapid, flitting witnessing of it. I used to be heavily involved in dance in high school and college, so this piece of work by MIT professor David Gifford with graduate student Adrian Dalca and the Boston Ballet is VERY moving to me. Combining time lapse photography and slow motion this piece captures what makes dance so complex and beautiful. The time-lapse sequence highlights the geometry and synchronicity that is required of the group as a whole, while the slow motion shows the individuals specific grace. It is a stunning piece I hope will be seen by people everywhere. Definitely different from most time-lapse photography which captures city motion and landscapes. Seriously spend the 2:45 and actually watch it, its wicked cool. 

Slow Blogs:

mnmlist (aka the minimalist). I am fully obsessed with this blog. The minimalist is a practical blog about slowing life down. This specific post I screen captured is about the dangers of reading about what other people are doing. In the blogging world this happens all to much so this was a great reminder! Each post is under 400 words which makes them super easy to read. My only issue is he does not post enough!!! He posts 1-2 times a month. Which is very characteristically slow but I am in love with his view point and I find myself wanting more. Part of the struggle trying to live a slower lifestyle is to just enjoy what I have been given. So instead I find myself going back to these posts over and over again to read them.

Canadian tuxedo

Purple hair, green bow? Heck why not! Get ready for the official Canadian tuxedo! However, I left out a jacket because at this point in time it was beautifully mild outside. Now the denim jacket would be oh so handy

I love stopping on the side of the road and taking photos. Sometimes it is hard to find a little tucked away spot where you won't be gawked at by every passerby. I love this little spot down the road form me. Just a wonderful right-of-way through a private forest. I can imagine this being gorgeous in the frost covered times to come. I chose a comfy fall themed outfit today for my day at the thrift store and evening at the pumpkin patch. I have all these cutesy vintage sweaters for fall that I just adore. I basically am your grandma.

rageddy ann + sweater + lace pants

Dressing up a basic sweater is TOUGH to do. Trying to look non-frumpy in your grandpas slightly over sized sweater takes skill. I think one of the best ways to dress up a sweater is to tuck it into a high-waisted skirt or some fun pants and add dressy accessories.  I took my style and added a bit of whimsy to the outfit by pairing it with my Rageddy Ann bag (complete with mini Rageddy!). Probably meant for a child this is just my kind of thing to spice up a basic outfit, plus its the perfect size for going out at night, and a conversation piece! On my instagram I took a few photos of my adventures with her.   what a doll that raggedy ;)  I wasn't sure how red would work with the purple hair but after seeing photos I am loving the combo! fall plaid poncho

I am on this kick of "fall" insert whatever I am wearing here for blog titles. I think it works. Also on a kick of these kick !@# boots. I've had this poncho since last winter and have been wanting to style it. It has been really hard for me for some reason! I finally think I found the perfect outfit though with my velvet vest and skirt and flowy vintage top. It's getting SO COLD out its practically winter. I am glad I took advantage of the great weather last week to get some blog photos done!!
What other ways would you style a poncho? I kept searching for different ideas but I think because this vintage poncho is so unique i had a hard time picturing it in those outfits.

fall floral dresses

I love how the fall colors have been sticking around so long! My dad reminded me on an adventure we took that usually by this time all the leaves have turned and are starting to fall to the ground all brown. This year we have really only had one frost and it wasn't a very heavy frost (however now its going to snow all week?) So still some of the trees are even green! I have been loving driving and seeing all the beautiful colors. I was inspired by the colors to wear this dress. A fall floral is fun to do and I think this Miss Frizzle like dress does the trick! I love pairing fall colors (dress) with spring colors (bag) and the pop of denim really screams fall to me. Plus the purple bag brings out my hair ;)

I am OBSESSED with my new Samantha Pleet for Wolverine boots. They were inspired by an 'explorer, Karen Blixen. In reality she was kind of just a lucky girl who had lots of cash, got to live in Africa and guide safaris. I love the whole idea of an explorer inspired boot collection! It kind of brings to mind a Jane/Tarzan feel. That being said they are insanely comfortable, well made and perfect for exploring right out my backyard. I love supporting local businesses and these are made by Wolverine (a local company out of Rockford, MI). I figured they would be Made in America but come to find out the entire Samantha Pleet line is made in China. I was really disappointed to find this out but I should know better to not assume and do my research before hand. Many of their mens work boots and the original 1000 mile for women are made right in Rockford. I am not surprised that this designer line would be made in China with its popularity, but I am kind of disappointed. Regardless I will continue supporting Wolverine because of their locale and the wonderful quality! They obviously have some great Chinese producers putting together this product and I am actually quite impressed! I hope because of that and the price point (300$) that they are made by well paid happy Chinese factory workers. I am sure they exist and in my mind I am just pretending that is the case.
