To me its weird. 10 years ago about this time I was getting ready to head to Michigan State for my first year of college. 10 years ago I was living in Grand Haven with my parents just like I am now.
It is kind of surreal and weird deciding to attend a gathering of all the people you have drifted away from for the past 10 years but still are Facebook friends with. Reunions are totally different with Facebook. In fact 10 years ago Facebook was born! Different conversation is heard around the room, instead of 'what the heck have you been doing the past 10 years' its like 'omg your baby is so cute!' or 'hows your new job going!?' or 'wow your pictures in australia are amazing how is it living there?'. We can approach conversations in a much more personal manner than just general how are you. Its kind of fun.
Quite frankly when I signed up to go, with a friend since preschool (who was way more excited than me I think) I didn't think it would be that fun. But then the drinks started filling and converstions started rolling and I started realizing, even with 10 years past I feel like I am in the middle of the hall at GHHS chatting with these people! It was fun to see how well everyone is doing and just shoot the shit. Plus I looked like a combo of mustard/ketchup and a Charlies Angel that went rogue.
The best part of the evening was my constant biting it from the awkward ramp from the balcony to the main dining hall. I fell every time in these amazing beauties. But it was fine. Who cares really! By the end of the evening even sober people in flats were falling on it (because really....it is just awkward). So all in all I had a blast. It just so happened that I was nearby for the time of the reunion and had a friend wanting to go....we will see where I am for the next one!
Do you attend your reunions? When was the last one you attended? Do you feel as torn about it as I do?
