Today I have some very wonderful help from some very awesome doggies for my DIY Dog Bandana post. This is totally different because it is NOT something for myself but I thought it would be fun to show you the other projects I work on once in awhile. This is a really easy beginning sewing project!
Step 1- Measure an existing bandana. You can do a fitting on your dog and see what lenghts you would like. I just used a trusty old bandana and tied it around Lily to see how it fit. I decided to adjust it a bit to make it a bit less long but wanted to also make it easy. I did 30" long by 10" (approx) my dogs are about 30-50lbs so this is a good size for those doggies.
Step 2 - Fold, iron and cut your fabric to the specifications you decided (you will need two triangles for each bandana) . It is really easy if you first just fold and then iron the folds well so you can then cut along them. I use regular scissors but if you had a cutting wheel this would make things so easy.
Step 3 - I put about a 1/2" seam around the sides. This is the most time consuming and frustrating part (in my mind) you have to carefully iron an even seam along the edges so it will fit with another piece.
Step 4- Pin and sew the seam.
I chose two different colors of string, hot pink and green so I could know which dog's bandana was which. And voila! So easy peasy you now have some pretty bandanas!
No matter what Rue's always comes forward while Lily's remains like a cape! Rue will then lick water from a puddle/bowl and get it all wet/dirty, its really cute. Rue is also not as used to bandanas as Lily so she will try to tear hers off if you leave her alone with it on too long. Lily loves wearing bandanas, the reason because I made her wear them as a puppy where Rue really didn't wear them much! Lily also loves her thunder shirt a lot too, she would do so well with all sorts of dog clothes ;)
