I was in a very 80s mood this day. So I fully embraced it, and added on some 50's jewelry. I love these abstract sweaters that were all the rage in the late 80s early 90s. slow sunday

Well its that time again! Slow Sunday. I was going especially slow last Sunday and didn't even post (way to go on the SECOND week of a new series....nice). So this weekend even though I was keeping myself busy I composed this set of awesome slow-ness for you. I guess it is just a pair of awesomes but you get it.

Slow Fashion

Completely obsessed with this VERY LONG AGO (2009) project done by Sheena Matheiken. Just wow. Go through the vimeo video (see below) and you can see how she styled this one little black dress for 365 days to help bring awareness to the cost of education in India (a place many of the fast fashion garments people LOVE are made).

I am very motivated to create another 365 project for a cause by this. I did the Year strictly for myself but I would love to use it to help those people impacted by fast fashion. What a brilliant and thoughtful woman. Also insanely stylish. She comes up with some of the cutest outfits with her LBD. 

"Slow" Gaming

It is no secret that I play World of Warcraft A LOT. But seriously, I love it even though I do not play it as much as many WoW geeks that I know, including my parents. Characteristically gaming is not slow, especially with a game like WoW with constant updates, new packages to get and more things to do. But I think as with anything you can take a slower approach, while some people chose to grind away endlessly just to get things, others prefer to make their way through the lore, reading every quest and watching each animation video in its total form. I take a more slow approach but enjoy watching the competitive aspects that come with an obsessed gamers lifestyle. So..... This weekend was Blizz Con, the (mostly) annual convention that Blizzard (the company behind WoW, Diablo and Starcraft and a few more I'm sure you don't know) put on. My family got a virtual ticket and we have spent the weekend watching panels on game creation, the new exciting WoW patch, cos-play costume contests, music and some of the most incredible gamers in the world. 

I was most excited to hear about the new WoW patch (checkout the awesome trailer above) , and the latest on the Warcraft movie but I was also insanely surprised to be so excited about the live game competitions. I have included a few videos I took to send to some friends because I thought it was hilarious. They are always making me watch sports and the whole atmosphere, announcers talking quickly, crowds cheering, competitors sweating was just on point for this. These videos didn't turn out, and they haven't uploaded the content to where I can embed it so here is video of the same contest in 2010. Watch a tiny bit of them at the super desk, then fast forward to about 5min to watch a little game play. It is hilarious. And I am a HUGE nerd. 

I normally work many Saturdays but took this Saturday off to do Blizz Con. And it is essentially all that I did this weekend. Well maybe there was a lot of tea drinking (until Hedwig broke the teapot) and a little bit of laundry going on, but not much. So you can say I am just taking a Slow Weekend instead of just a Slow Sunday. 

three piece suit

A few posts back I mentioned how I wish I had done a three-piece Canadian tuxedo. So here it is VOILA! with all its awesomeness. I zazzed up what would traditionally be the most dorky thing you have seen with my vintage dior silk shirt and some killer white pumps! Added my favorite white clutch and I'm ready to go! alternative animal print

Animal prints are one of those things that are constantly in and out of trend reports. I am a huge fan of all animal prints all the time regardless of what TREND says. So here is my alternative animal print, actual animals! Its like a zoo exploded on my shirt (and I'm going with SANCTUARY actually since I am not a fan of the zoo). So I say screw the trend reports. Wear your animal prints loud and proud like that lion on your threads. Rock it!
Are you a trend person? I really am not. I like to look at trends to get ideas and inspiration for dressing myself and things to hunt for while vintage picking. That is the extent.

Always sad to see October go but I am really excited for November! This month i get to take a trip to Nashville (one of my favorite cities). I also am amping up my etsy store a bit more with some up-cycled goods, printed items of my own designs and tons of fun sweaters! Also looking forward to Blizz-Con (I play World of Warcraft) this weekend and holidays with family.

october roundup

Ok. Ok. I know its the 4th day of November I should have been on this quicker. I also didn't post Slow Sunday yesterday since I have not been feeling well so I will just save that ;). But I just wanted to highlight my favorite month and welcome in the new month. Since switching to Slow Your Style i have yet to find a blog calendar that really works for me. So its been kind of sporadic annoying posting. As I am sitting here I am working on the calendar for November. More to come on that tomorrow with the insty roundup!  October was full of fall colors, fun hair and exciting adventures. I love this outfit of a crochet vest and flouncy fall colored top, what better way to ring in October than with a pumpkin shirt? and of course the velvet bow and Canadian tuxedo outfit! I also pulled out some pieces that have been sitting in my closet awhile. Like this grandma sweater. This purple fur vest and my highwaist jeans, the fringe jacket and this Miss Frizzle dress. 

And quite honestly my FAVORITE outfit of October was this grunge inspired look. I was way into this outfit and kind of wishing it was warm enough to wear it again! Looking forward to more outfit posts this fall and more slow adventures!

Get your fruit on! 
This top was an awesome find! I am obsessed with fruit prints and love me a good bowl-o-fruit on my shirt. I haven't worn this skirt in awhile and it was the perfect addition to this outfit. The shirt even goes great w/ the purple hair. And out come the tights! So stinking cold....Brrrrrr. Excuse my absence from posting the past few days. crochet vest, silk flouncy top and skinny jeans

For a hot minute I thought I couldn't do purple and fall colors. I was really scared to even do purple because I basically live in fall colors (according to my mother I am a fall! I agree...). But its totally working out. In fact it is making me want to style more jewel tones in with fall colors. Especially this burnt orange. This top is so silky and gorgeous everyday inside of it is magical! Snagged this vest for a solid $3.99 at the thrift store I work at. Uh yahhhhh!!!!! So now I am excessively interested in others thoughts on color pairing. Are there colors that you won't wear together? What are your FAVORITE colors to wear in general? Colors you hate? I'm so curious. Because I am finding that my sense of color is changing over time I am wondering if others experience this too!!

slow sunday

Ahhh Sunday. I feel like its already a characteristically slow day, it is after all the day of rest and many people get the luxury of spending it that way! This will be a new series where I will share some things going on in my life and in the world of the slow movement. 

Slow Reading:

I have been reading this Y.A. book series I got for my birthday called The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater. It is freaking incredible. Stiefvater is an amazing story teller that has you so sucked in that you can hardly think of anything else. I love a YA series were boys take the main stage and the Raven Boys is just that (don't worry there is a girl front and center too!). This is very dark, twisty with lots of the occult. Taking things from dreams, being best friends with a ghost and searching for a mythical king all while struggling with the day to day life of high school students are just a few of the things that happen in this series. If you are into fantasy and like a well written book this is for you. Even if you don't dabble in the Young Adult world I highly recommend this series. Put on a pot of tea and call yourself in sick because you won't want to put these down until you finish. 

Slow Fashion: 

John Bartlett and Ruthie Davis have partnered to make a vegan shoe line called Ruthie Davis (Heart) (the original article was found on Ecouterre, a great site if your interested in eco-fashion). You may remember some of John's stuff if you have been reading my blog for awhile in the year (Day FortyTwo, Day OneHudredFiftyEight). I bought the pig shirt. I love his tiny tim fund design which is the design on these shoes. Davis already has a wonderful vegan eco-friendly line of shoes and this partnership makes me ECSTATIC. Eco-friendly comes with a price though, all designs start at about $400. They will be available in Spring 2014. Better start saving my pennies now!

Slow Art: 

There are a few definitions of slow art. The one I like advocates an appreciation for art work itself, as opposed to a rapid, flitting witnessing of it. I used to be heavily involved in dance in high school and college, so this piece of work by MIT professor David Gifford with graduate student Adrian Dalca and the Boston Ballet is VERY moving to me. Combining time lapse photography and slow motion this piece captures what makes dance so complex and beautiful. The time-lapse sequence highlights the geometry and synchronicity that is required of the group as a whole, while the slow motion shows the individuals specific grace. It is a stunning piece I hope will be seen by people everywhere. Definitely different from most time-lapse photography which captures city motion and landscapes. Seriously spend the 2:45 and actually watch it, its wicked cool. 

Slow Blogs:

mnmlist (aka the minimalist). I am fully obsessed with this blog. The minimalist is a practical blog about slowing life down. This specific post I screen captured is about the dangers of reading about what other people are doing. In the blogging world this happens all to much so this was a great reminder! Each post is under 400 words which makes them super easy to read. My only issue is he does not post enough!!! He posts 1-2 times a month. Which is very characteristically slow but I am in love with his view point and I find myself wanting more. Part of the struggle trying to live a slower lifestyle is to just enjoy what I have been given. So instead I find myself going back to these posts over and over again to read them.
